Download the Beta1 RC of our WinFX Technologies

I am excited to announce that the Beta1 Release Candidate (that means all-but-final) build of Avalon and Indigo is available for everyone to download off MSDN.

Microsoft® Pre-Release Software Code Named “Avalon” and “Indigo” Beta1 RC

This build is based on Whidbey Beta2, so you should be able to make use of it right away.  Also, note that it works with the latest IronPython release that so many others have found…  I do high recommend you uninstall any older versions of the Avalon and Indigo you make have.

This build offers our first public look at the new combine setup for Avalon, Indigo and the .NET Framework 2.0.  It should install only the bits you need to save download and install time.

We’d love to hear your feedback… does it feel like the product is coming together as a unified platform?  I’d love to hear comments from you on anything that is missing or feels disjoint.

Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks for the linkage!

I don't get it. Does this mean it's a candidate to be beta1? Or it's a candidate to be version 1 RTM? I've never seen the term "beta 1 RC" before.

Sorry about the unclear naming Josh -- this is a close to final release of the Beta1 of Avalon and Indigo... We ship these with Longhorn!

What about the Beta1 RC docs? This is just a redist install. Are there docs and project templates and everything now that this build will play well with VS 2005 Beta2? Thanks for any info.

Nevermind. I guess I just didn't see the SDK link on the page. Thanks for kicking out these great betas and CTPs!!! Makes me excited to be building on the MS platform.

Brad, is there a way to change the install path? I've got 2 partitions, one for my applications, one for Windows. By default, that installer wants to install the SDK on my Windows partition. Is there a way to change the path?

Does the framework build change between this and beta 1 ?
# BradA said on May 23, 2005 11:30 PM:
This is the same build of the .NET Framework as the Beta2 release we did recently.. hope that helps.
