Please do not reprint this email in your blogs

This morning, several hundred Microsoft bloggers received an internal email (unrelated to blogging) that ended with, "Please do not reprint this email in your blogs."

I hm'd to myself, "Hm. Hmmmmm."
And then I said, "Hah! Blogger bait."

Don't you just love reverse psychology? If you want a blogger to blog, just tell 'em they can't blog about something. Every day, a blogger is born...

I wonder aloud: are the PR suits actually asking rank and file bloggers like Buck and Craig to help them do their jobs? If so, get a clue. We only deal in authentic Kool-Aid at this blogger stand.

Can we play warm/cold?

Was it to do with the new Microsoft Desktop Search?

If somebody wants me to blog about something, you just need to say so directly and then explain the value proposition for my readers. Subterfuge is no good. Francisco asked me to blog about the release of http://www.url123.com a few months ago, and I did! Why? Because he took the time to explain WHY my blog is a better place to publicize his service than another medium like a PR newswire or a TV commercial? How is that news, not hype? IMHO, the announcement of URL123 was news my readers could use...news that had the potential to incrementally improve their lives and fortunes more the 30 seconds it took to read it. I could be wrong but I doubt you're reading this comment because you're interested in some strategic alliance between Microsoft and company x.

You can’t leave us hanging like this! It’s like a person running around singing “I’ve got a secret, I’ve got a secret... But I’m not going to tell you!” You can’t taunt us like that and not come clean!
