Channel 9 Interview: XML Literals Performance and Namespaces Explained (Beth Massi)

Published 14 December 07 07:00 PM

I just posted a Channel 9 interview with Avner Aharoni, a Program Manager on the Visual Basic Team, as he dives into LINQ to XML and XML Literals in Visual Basic 9 and explains namespace bubbling and the performance gains you may see using XML Literals. This is a good interview to pay attention to if you are struggling with how XML namespaces work in Visual Basic.

Get started with LINQ to XML in Visual Basic with these How-to Videos.

Why does everyything new on MSDN have to be a video?  Bring back the the text.  I want to learn about this stuff but don't have the time to sit through a 15-30 minute video when i could spend 5 minutes reading the same information.

Can you shed some light on whether or not the .NET XML methods load and parse the entire file at the same time?  We need a record at a time processing of xml files since we get them in the 50+ megabyte range on a daily basis. For business reasons, each file comes from a single customer  and each file contains several thousand data records to be treated as a single large transaction from that customer.
