PInvoke Interop Assistant on CodePlex (Jared Parsons)

Published 20 June 08 09:27 AM

I'm happy to announce that the PInvoke Interop Assistant tool is now available on CodePlex.  This includes the binaries, source code and the dev authored unit tests.

It is hosted on the more general CLR Interop Tools page.

I will be actively maintaining this tool in the future and (hopefully) adding more features.  There were several features we cut just before release due to QA costing that I would like to add back (including VS integration, wrapper functions).

Please post any suggestions you have for the tool on the site and we will definitely consider them.

I tried this tool a few months back when I first read about it, and unfortunately it did not work out of the box for the functions I was interested in because of macro expansion issues...I was able to get around this by creating my own header file and expanding the macros by hand, but surely there is a way to use the Microsoft C compiler to accomplish macro expansion automatically and then perform the P/Invoke processing...am I off-base?  Excellent tool and I look forward to seeing it grow.

@Joe,

Sorry to hear you were having problems with the tool.  Do you remember what functions in particular you were having problems with?  The tool supports macro expansion (and essentially a full pre-processor engine) so if there is an expansion issue I would like to fix it.

Was in wininet, favorites and history functions in particular, if I remember correctly.  I think I still have the folder on my machine at home, so I will check and get back with you.

A list of .NET framework missing equivalent win32 functionality is much needed.

Any chance that Microsoft will get a win32 THUNK layer for a large subset of the normal Win32 calls that do not have a .NET equivalent?
