Any idea if this and the VPC2007 updates will be available via Microsoft Update?

Ben, Thanks for the heads up. Although I'm downloading both, I wondered if it is necessary since VPC and VS have files in common. I hope that the order of upgrading doesnt matter. I can't help but notice that your input in the TechNet forums, the News Group and even your own blog has fallen off. Guess that you are just busy with work. Still waiting for posts on DOS games in Hyper-V.

Will this be the end of the line for Virtual Server 2005? (No more SP's, Rs, etc)

What is the "elevated command window" mentioned in the installation instructions?

Brent - No.

Wesley - Yes, you need to install both updates.  And yes - I have been quite busy working on Hyper-V :-)

Robert - We have no immediate plans for any major updates to Virtual Server at this stage (and will be recommending that people move to Hyper-V) but I cannot say whether there will be SPs or not - as that will be dependant on customer reported issues.

Todd Ogasawra - It is a command window that is opened by right clicking on "Command Prompt" and selecting "Run as administrator".

Cheers,

Ben

Thanks guys! my w2k8 machines run a lot smoother now! finally can think of migrating all of my vms to w2k8 now and getting under the hood of the new server system.

Hope Virtual Server doesn't die soon. it's still great! :)

We applied the VS2005 R@ SP1 update last night (then applied the new virtual machine additions) and it seemed to solve the VM crashing problem when the VM is set to save state on shutdown.  If you just cycle the VM service it seems to work great.  However if you reboot the machine the WaitToKillServiceTimeout no longer seems to work.  The server reboots immediately.  Has anyone else seen this problem?
